Over the past 18 months we have spent more time in our homes than ever and keeping on top of design trends has never been a higher priority. "The way we now live our lives has changed completely to a world prior to the Pandemic, and that has impacted our designs as homes are now more important than ever" says Interior Designer Kate Murace from our Norwest MyChoice Design Studio.

Here’s what we’re predicting will feature in the top Interior Design trends for 2022.

LET’S GET A LITTLE EARTHY

The outdoors has proven to be a great source of inspiration for home design trends over the past two years and this will be remerging in 2022. This year we will see more designs brimming in nature colours such as leafy greens, bark browns, ocean and sky blues, sandy beiges and cloudy white into the home, welcome Global styling. Kate says “Over the past two years, clients have been drawn initially to our Classic style which then moved into the Coastal Style. This year I think we will see the Global style rival the Coastal Style”.

SHADES OF BROWN

The 70’s has returned with lashings of chocolate brown! Partnered with other colours as a deep neutrals to create rich and elegant spaces, make room for rosy, terracotta tones, chocolate browns and caramels.

GREEN IS THE NEW NEUTRAL

Bringing the outside in, will see a reconnection with nature as tones of green flourish in 2022. Shades like emerald will add a colourful and luxurious touch to your home and evoke a sense of tranquillity into every space.
We will see green and natural tones blended into interiors using plants, timber furnishings and terracotta.

PANTONE'S 2022 COLOUR OF THE YEAR: VERY PERI

Pantone recently named "Very Peri" as its 2022 Colour of the Year. Highlighting a carefree confidence and daring creative confidence this bold blue with a violet-red undertone places the future in a whole new light. You can expect to see this joyous shade show up in everything from furniture to decor.

SENSUAL CURVES AND FEMINE SHAPES

Sharp crisp lines will always be on trend, however this year we’ll see a softening of furniture with curved edges and feminine shapes being brought to the forefront of home design. Sculptural furniture will be in focus, with striking pieces taking centre stage all whilst remaining comfortable and gracious.
From curved corners within walls and cabinets to curved backs of sofas, dining chairs and arched cabinets, the angular line of furnishing is softening. Say goodbye to the right angle!

ORGANIC & NATURAL TEXTURES

2022 is the year for mastering the mixing and matching of organic textures.
Add texture and depth into your space with patterned jute. Highlight an area by layering a small rug on top of a larger one as this helps direct the eye to that specific space.

Woven wall hangings are an easy way to bring a touch of texture and detail to walls. Try using a wall hanging to create a feature that your eye is immediately drawn to. Coming in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, colours and patterns your options will be endless.

BIG & BOLD PATTERNS

More vibrant colours and bold patterned fabrics will be brought into 2022, especially in furniture, window treatments and wallpaper. Playing a key role, by creating a key feature in any room, watch out for Pantone’s colour of the year.

"This year we will start to see a more playful approach on what will be up and coming within our homes, something that just makes us feel happy! The Eclectic sub-style highlights mis-matched items that work together in a cohesive but unique way, and our Bohemian Sub Style shows rich and varied textures all paired together that brings a sense of comfort and ease and our Zen and Fusion styles create equally tranquil and welcoming spaces".
