2023 Interior Design Trends

by
Emma

2022 saw our homes washed in earthy and neutral tones and furnished with feminine shapes and comforting curves. As we head into the new year, we are all looking forward to getting ahead of the upcoming trends.
Here is what we’re predicting will feature in the top Interior Design trends for 2023.

NATURAL STONE SLABS

Bold marble or natural stone statement pieces will feature in kitchens to create a focal point and add a touch of drama. Cascading to the floor in waterfall edges, stones with veins will enhance this space as well as bathrooms and laundries.

MEANINGFUL DÉCOR

Items that we feel hold ultimate value will fill our homes. People will really embrace the use of family heirlooms and antiques. Maybe it’s your grandfather’s globe or a collection of plane tickets, whatever it is that brings your truest self to your living space is on trend.

BLUE

Bold blues will be a trending colour for the upcoming year. Use throughout facades, feature walls and cabinetry.

STATEMENT LAMPS

We are predicting to see more saturated colours, glossy finishes and elaborate lamp shades and shapes.

INTERNATIONAL INFLUENCE

Want to reminisce on that European holiday to Italy you took back in 2019? We will be seeing more inspiration coming from European adventures, like Aperol spritz sitting on a red and white checked tablecloth.

INDOOR AS OUTDOOR

Outdoor spaces are becoming more integrated into our homes. Seamless transitions from indoors, out will be made through use of natural materials with textural and tonal finishes.

SUSTAINABILITY

More home buyers are leaning towards compact home designs with less of an environmental footprint. This also means we will be making the most of natural light, using shading and ventilation to reduce the need for heating and cooling. Solar will continue to gain popularity as rising energy costs put pressure on household incomes.

ISLAND SPACE

Larger kitchen islands will be integrated to accommodate for a larger entertaining and gather space in the kitchen.

WELLNESS AT HOME

In 2023 there will be a greater shift towards mindfulness and incorporating it into our lives. Bringing this into our home, we will see dedicated spaces that stimulate a sense of calmness. There will also be an increased focus on physical wellness with stretching/pilates rooms, meditation spaces and gyms.

NEUTRAL TONES

In 2022 we saw an influx of natural materials and earth inspired colours take precedence. We will continue to see this trend throughout 2023.

PANTONE COLOUR OF THE YEAR: VIVA MAGENTA

Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Viva Magenta 18-1750, ‘vibrates with vim and vigor’. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.
