7 Star Energy Efficiency is here

From the 1st October 2023, changes were made to the National Construction Code. These changes include increases to the thermal performance standards of new homes as well as higher energy standards.

What is BASIX? 

BASIX, or the building sustainability index, is a NSW Government planning measure to reduce household electricity and water use by setting minimum sustainability targets for new and renovated homes. 
All builders must submit a BASIX certificate showing they have either met or exceeded the target as part of the approvals process before your build can begin. A BASIX certificate is required for both CDC and DA builds.  
 

What's changed?

Prior to 1st October 2023, the required energy rating for new homes was 5.5 stars, this has now increased to 7 stars. 

BASIX thermal performance standards are designed to limit the amount of heating needed in Winter and cooling needed in Summer, limiting the amount of energy your home uses. There are a number of factors that will impact the thermal performance and energy efficiency of your home. The size, orientation of your home and its climate zone, will all influence what is required to reach the new 7 star rating. With that in mind the solution required will be unique to each build, however at MOJO Homes we have included a range of items as standard to help you achieve a 7 star standard on your home. 

Do these changes affect my build?

These changes will only affect customers who have signed a contract from the 1st October 2023 onwards, as well as customers who are unable to submit a BASIX certificate prior to 30th June 2024. These transitional arrangements are subject to meeting certain criteria, to see if you qualify please check out this helpful fact sheet.  
 

It is important to note BASIX is an external assessment unique to each build, our team will work with you to achieve the best outcome possible for your block of land.
