Build With Mojo

Designed for stunning views

At Mojo, our split-level home designs are designed to make the most of your land's natural elevation. We design with your goals in mind, cleverly working with the slope to prioritise your local views and eliminate hidden costs, such as unsightly retaining walls, costly excavation, or steep, impractical driveways.

But it’s not just about the terrain, it’s about how you live. This can typically provide bedrooms that have amazing views, whilst being private, and living areas with expansive entertaining zones that prioritise family living. Our designs ensure you get the home design you’ve always wanted, regardless of your block type.

Building on a slope is also a win for sustainability. Because our multi-level designs follow the natural progression of the land, they require less earth to be moved during construction. This approach isn’t just eco-friendly; it’s more aesthetically pleasing, allowing your home to blend with the native landscape.

The real magic, though, is in the outlook. By staggering the floor levels, you can enjoy breathtaking views from multiple areas of the home, creating a main living space that feels open, airy, and perfectly connected to your surroundings.

FAQs

What is a split-level home?

A split-level home is a smart architectural style featuring staggered floor levels connected by short flights of stairs. Unlike traditional homes, these designs are specifically engineered to work with the natural terrain of a sloping block rather than fighting against it.

Are split level designs suitable for sloping blocks?

Absolutely! Rather than fighting the terrain with large excavation, a split-level design follows the natural incline of your land. By staggering the floor levels, we minimise the need for costly large retaining walls and heavy earthworks, thereby significantly improving how cost effective your home build is.

Building on a slope doesn't just save money; it can also improve your design. These designs are incredibly versatile, perfectly accommodating upward, downward, or side-sloping blocks (especially those with a fall greater than 2m).

The multi-tiered structure naturally helps promote natural light and airflow throughout the home, creating vibrant, airy spaces. Plus, the elevated positioning often captures stunning panoramic views that a traditional single-level home simply can't reach. It’s a smart, sustainable, and popular way to turn a challenging site into an incredible design.

What is classified as a sloping block?

A sloping block is any piece of land with a gradient that rises or falls across the site rather than lying flat. These blocks are categorised by the direction of the incline, including upward (upslope), downward (downslope), or sideways (cross slope).

Generally, if a site has a fall of more than a few metres across the building area, it’s considered sloping. While these blocks can be challenging for traditional builds, they are perfect for specialised designs like split-levels. At Mojo, we see these gradients as an opportunity to create a unique, multi-level home that captures incredible views and natural light.
