WHAT IS THE COUNTRY STYLE

A subset of the Classic style, the Country style shares similar characteristics to that of a cottage style through its use of muted landscape colours and vintage accessories throughout the home. Local markets and antique shops offer inspiration for furniture pieces within this style. Fabrics on curtains and bedding often feature floral patterns, gingham or stipes, to bring personality to the otherwise neutral and simple base palette. Furnishings are most often warm timber to support the patterning. This style takes its core from traditional classic look, but it is unstructured, relaxing and heart-warming.

COUNTRY TOP 5 TIPS

1. High profiled skirtings and architraves and detailed panelled internal doors. Also include detailed cornices, 90mm are preferable.
2. Dado panelling at 1200mm, up to picture rail or full heigh in a vertical pattern
3. Brickwork or brickwork and render on a façade rather than a fully rendered façade. Weatherboard is also a perfect addition.
4. Timber floor throughout wherever possible, or with sisal carpet to bedrooms. Ensure timber flooring has texture to it and reflects a sense of history
5. Timber laminate benchtops are a great contrast with profiled cabinetry doors in all areas of the home, especially butler’s pantries, bathrooms and laundries.
