Hamptons Styling

by
Emma

Taking the interior design world by storm many years ago, the Hamptons style trend continues to flourish. The Hamptons style is inspired by the architecture and decorating influence of holiday homes in seaside locations along the eastern beaches of New York’s Long Island.

SUBSET OF CLASSIC

A subset of the Classic Style, Hamptons represents elegant but relaxed coastal living. The Hamptons style is light and fresh and begins with classic architectural design features including timber panelling, high coffered or pitched ceilings with exposed beams and timber floors. Layered with beautiful, neutral, ocean inspired colours, and natural materials, this will always be one of the world’s most popular styles.

THE COLOUR SCHEME

When it comes to the colour scheme of the Hamptons style home, keep with the coastal inspired vibe of white as a base colour with walls, ceilings & doors in a crisp or off-white colour. A pop of deep blue is quite common in this style, you will notice Taubmans ‘Deep Ocean’ featured in many of MOJO’s Hamptons styled display homes. You can bring hints of colour to any room with decor, soft furnishings, art, lamps, rugs and more.

UNDER YOUR FEET

For underfoot, choose pale timbers with grey undertones, or whitewashed distressed timber flooring to achieve the effortless coastal vibe of the Hamptons Style.
If carpet is more your style in Bedrooms, look for natural tones and simple textures that evoke sandy beaches.

IN THE KITCHEN

The heart of the home should be nothing short of sophisticated. Light coloured marble or crisp light stone benchtops with white or blue hued cabinetry and glass panelled shelving will reinforce the laid-back feel of the Hamptons home.

FURNITURE AND FURNISHINGS

Keeping with the coastal inspired theme, stick to light and airy textures throughout. Select timber cabinetry, rattan armchairs or stools and upholstered occasional chairs and add washed linens, soft cotton or wool to layer natural textures to elevate your décor.
Infuse pops of colour into home decor that tie the whole space together. Textured & patterned cushions will give depth, whilst blue & white ceramics or delicate florals will add an element of elegance.
